magic

I have a shoot this morning and I was thinking about the creative process...let me back up...I was thinking about how nervous I was.  I am nervous before every single shoot (Yes, after 7 years of doing this professionally!). Not to the point that I am sweating...but anxious for sure. I wake up in full work mode. Sometimes I try to distract myself. Sometimes I go for a run. And sometimes I ponder and examine what is going on. And that is what I did today. This is what was revealed...

I get nervous (lose faith) that magic won't happen. There is so much of being a paid creative person that you cannot plan for. I can study and research, meditate and contemplate, sketch and ponder til the cows come home, but at the end of the day, you have to trust the process and BELIEVE that magic will happen. And it always does. But you have to watch for it. And listen to your instincts. And know who you are. And let go enough to let in something new. In painting, photography, and even just my random sketching...I am starting from NOTHING and trusting with all my might that SOMETHING will happen.

I so thankful for the creative process. Maybe one day I will trust that magic always happens. But I hope to never stop being amazed by it.

I don't think we should ever take magic for granted. I love it when a picture I've taken or a poster I've created at work surprises me with that ineffable something that makes me want to look at it again and again. It inspires me to try new things, learn something new, stretch.

Love reading about your process. Especially love to see photos from shoots :) I know you don't post as many as you used to, but they're SO great!!
